“No Romance Without Finance”. Singer Gwen Guthrie couldn’t have said it better in her 1986 R&B hit “Ain’t Nothin Goin On But The Rent”. No this song isn’t dedicated to being a gold digger. The message is saying if you want to be in a relationship with me then as the man you need to have your stuff together. You can’t be in my face as a man with no money, no job, no car but you wanna lay up in my bed and get it poppin every night. He couldn’t pay one simple bill if you asked him which is no bueno…in other words NO GOOD!!
You’re good enough to let him lay in your bed, eat your food and watch your cable but he can’t give you a dime? In the old days a man was to be a provider and head of household. The man is to be the protector over everything and the woman is supposed to feel that she can rest easy knowing that her man has it and she doesn’t have to struggle to figure out where its coming from.
Some women may feel like “I don’t wanna be alone so I’ll let him get away with everything” but that is not a good excuse. You shouldn’t be trying to figure out how you’re gonna pay the electric bill or rent every month when you have a man by your side who should be able to help you when you need it. If you’re in a relationship with a man that can do nothing for you besides give you sex then you’re probably better off by yourself. And we’re not talking about a man who had a job but lost it due to circumstances beyond his control. We’re talking about that man that you’re giving up the goods to and letting him stay with you knowing that he came to the table with nothing from the get go.
So ladies be wise with who you lay up with. Ask yourself, if I’m in need of help with something financially could this man help me out? Does he even WANT to help me out? Think about that before you let the slick talker sleep in your bed every night!
